Abu Dhabi has a reputation for extravagance, but the best of what it offers doesn't require a dirham. The list below prioritises genuinely free experiences—no hidden charges, no mandatory purchases—and discloses when optional costs exist nearby. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

This architectural masterpiece holds 82 domes, 1,000-plus columns, and welcomes both Muslims and non-Muslims daily with completely free entry. Corniche Beach

The beach is two kilometres of white sand and turquoise waters; a dreamy spot to get some sun. The Corniche stretches for 8 kilometers along Abu Dhabi's pristine waterfront, with a beautifully landscaped promenade that features playgrounds, cafes, and stunning views of the city skyline. There are plenty of walking and cycling paths, as well as picnic spots, making it a great destination for families and couples alike. Sunbeds and umbrellas cost extra; everything else is free.
Hudayriat Island Beach

There is no entrance fee for accessing this island, making it a perfect destination for leisure, entertainment, and sports activities. It features a 10km cycle track with bike rental, beach volleyball, basketball, tennis and football courts, kayaking and kite surfing opportunities and plenty of food trucks. The 600m long beach is free for the public and there is a huge kids play area, sunbeds for rent and toilets and showers. Sports are optional; just walking, cycling, and swimming are not.

Visit the majestic Emirates Palace (lobby and gardens are free). Emirates Palace public areas are among the best free places to visit in Abu Dhabi. Walk through the opulent corridors without buying a coffee or booking the spa. The marble halls, domes, and courtyards alone justify the trip.
Qasr Al Hosn Exterior Grounds

Qasr Al Hosn is the oldest stone building in Abu Dhabi and a reminder of the city's humble beginnings as a fishing and pearl-diving settlement. The interior museum costs AED 30; the courtyard and exterior are free to roam.
Saadiyat Public Beach

Abu Dhabi Fish Market

The new Fish Market, opened in 2022, has 104 fresh fish stalls and 44 cleaning stations. Whilst it's missing some of the charm of the old fish market, it has the same bustling atmosphere and is a great place to see the variety of fish and seafood caught locally. Open daily from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm (10:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays). The market is completely FREE to enter. Go early to see the day's catch before it sells.
Green Mubazzarah

Escape to nature at Green Mubazzarah, located near the iconic Jebel Hafit in Al Ain. Pack a picnic basket and unwind amidst lush greenery, hot springs, and breathtaking mountain views.
