Dubai in Winter: Weather, Events and the Best Things to Do
December through February brings blue skies, beach days, and festivals to Dubai. Here's how to plan and pack for a season when the city finally feels like itself.
Winter in Dubai doesn't mean snow and dark mornings. From November through March, the city trades its crushing summer heat for something improbable in the desert: comfort. Days hover around 24–26°C with clear skies; evenings drop sharply enough that a light layer matters. Rain is rare, the sun stays reliable, and for the first time in months, exploring outdoors doesn't feel like a test of endurance.
This guide moves through winter season in the order you'll need it: what to expect from the weather, what to pack, when to book, and what's worth doing while you're here. December through February sees the year's biggest crowds and highest prices, but also the city at its most usable. The season splits into three phases: the shopping festival and run-up to New Year (mid-December through early January); the quieter weeks after; and February, when things gradually warm again.
Book early and book midweek. Hotel rates climb 30–50% over summer and can reach $434 per night in December alone; luxury properties near the holidays charge eye-watering sums. Reserve at least a month ahead, and avoid December 25–January 2 unless you specifically want fireworks and crowds. Restaurants book weeks in advance. If you're flexible on dates, mid-week stays offer better value than weekends.

Winter is Dubai's busiest period, with visitor numbers peaking from mid-December to February and hotel rates rising by 30–50%. December is the most expensive month, with prices at $434/night. The cheapest time to book a hotel in Dubai is usually 1 month out from when you are planning to stay. Sunday is the least expensive day to stay, while Thursday is the most expensive. Arrive early November or late February if crowds deter you; late January tends quieter than Christmas week.

Expect daytime high temperatures in December of 26°C, January 24.2°C and February 25.6°C. From November to March, Dubai enjoys its most comfortable temperatures: 20–28°C by day and 14–18°C at night. Nights can be cool, particularly in the desert and mountain areas of the Emirate, and it can sporadically rain. Sunset is around 5.30pm throughout December, so plan outdoor activities accordingly and bring layers for both midday sun and evening chill.

Slightly thicker materials and an extra layer of warmth might be needed in the winter. When winter sets in, bring along a jacket, hoodie and jeans – the temperatures in the desert are cooler than that of the city. You will need a very light jacket for the malls and for desert safari where it can get chilly in the evenings. If you plan on taking day trips from Dubai, especially to the mountains in Hatta or Ras Al Khaimah, then pack a pullover or warm hoodie and some warm socks. 1–2 swimsuits, a kaftan or oversized shirt for covering up, and straw hat & sunglasses; just cover up when leaving beach areas. Closed shoes replace flip-flops at night; modest dress is expected in most public spaces.

The Dubai Shopping Festival is set to run from December 5, 2025 to January 11, 2026, with promotions across thousands of stores and nightly entertainment spots. Running from December 6, 2025 to January 11, 2026, expect citywide sales, raffle draws for luxury cars, concerts by international artists, light shows, and drone fireworks across key spots. Christmas will be celebrated on December 25 with spectacular seasonal markets, tree-lighting events, and luxury holiday-priced Christmas brunches. Plan ahead: popular restaurants book weeks in advance, and prices spike dramatically December 25–January 2.
Ski Dubai and Winter Wonderland

Located in the Mall of the Emirates, Ski Dubai is the Middle East's first indoor ski resort, and during the winter season, transforms into a festive wonderland, complete with sparkling lights, holiday decorations, and a range of exciting activities. Ski Dubai offers guests all the winter clothing and gear they need to be comfortable inside, and equipment and outfit rental is included in all packages. The attraction suits families and serious skiers alike; morning and midweek sessions are quieter than evenings and weekends.
Desert Safaris and Night Drives

It's the season for open-air everything: desert safaris, yacht cruises, rooftop dinners, and evening walks along JBR Beach. Pack light layers; mornings are pleasantly cool, and desert evenings can dip below 15°C. Book through established operators; solo travellers and groups of all ages join daily tours.

Winter is an ideal time to visit the Burj Khalifa as clearer skies make the views far sharper than in the hazy summer months, and sunset happens earlier so you can enjoy the golden hour. Settle for some fascinating fireworks shows and grand views of Dubai from the Burj Khalifa observatory on top. Book tickets online in advance; sunset slots fill fastest. The base contains restaurants and shopping; plan 2–3 hours for the full visit.
Outdoor Markets and Seasonal Villages

Winter 2025/26 starts with the return of outdoor markets and seasonal favourites like Global Village, with Winter City under the Al Wasl Dome featuring a Christmas market, Santa's House, Frosty's Farm House and an enchanting Carols by Candlelight service from 20 to 24 December. General Admission tickets are now on sale for AED 50, whilst Carols by Candlelight costs AED 150 per person. These venues operate primarily in evenings and weekends; arrive early to avoid queues.
Beach and Water Activities

Expect the lowest water temperatures mid-winter in Dubai of around 23.9°C (75°F). The sea can be considered acceptable for swimming year-round, although from January to March it gets a bit chilly, dropping to around 23°C. Winter mornings and late afternoons offer the most comfortable swimming. Beach clubs and resorts stay open and busy during daylight; swimwear is appropriate at pools, beaches, and beach clubs — just cover up when leaving those areas.
Cultural Sites and Souks

Going through the oldest part of the city at Dubai Creek is one of the highly recommended things to do in Dubai during winter and any time of the year. Don't miss the chance to visit the Dubai Museum in the Al Fahidi Fort at the southern end of the Creek. Winter's cooler temperatures make wandering the souks and creek-side walkways pleasant for the first time in months. Early morning offers fewer crowds and lower heat. Modest dress is expected; abaya rentals are available at the entrance to some cultural sites.
