Happy hour in Dubai: the deals worth building an evening around

Every licensed bar in Dubai is attached to a hotel. That single licensing fact explains the shape of the city's happy hours: the good ones are in hotels, and the standalone restaurant with a great offer does not exist here.

ROKA runs one of the more generous windows — 4pm to 8pm Monday through Friday, with beers at Dhs25, Italian bubbly and wine at Dhs35, mixed drinks at Dhs35, and bar bites including seared salmon sushi at Dhs35. Four hours is long by any city's standards and unusually long by Dubai's.

Circus Bar's XO Hours takes a different approach: every weekday from 5pm to 7pm, two hours of drinks for Dhs175 per person. That is a package rather than a discount, and the arithmetic is simple — it beats à la carte at three drinks and is poor value at two.

Spartan Sports Bar runs Sundays from 4pm to 6pm with unlimited house drinks plus a bar bite at Dhs199, which is the same logic applied to the quietest afternoon of the week.

Two pieces of advice that hold across the city. Go on a Monday or Tuesday: the longest deals run early in the week, when venues are competing for a thinner crowd, and you are not fighting for bar space. And read whether the offer is a discount or a package — Dubai increasingly runs the latter, and a package only pays off if your table drinks at the pace it assumes.
