Dubai's year, month by month: when to book and when to stay in

The city runs on a weather calendar. Here is which months are worth planning around.
Dubai's calendar is organised around temperature more than anything else, and the practical consequence is that the same restaurant is a different proposition in January and in July.
November to March is the season. Outdoor dining reopens, beach clubs fill, the concert and sports calendars land, and every terrace in the city that has been shut since May is suddenly the place to be. This is when the shopping festival runs, when the big touring acts route through, and when booking a week ahead stops being optional.
April and October are the shoulder months and they are underrated. Evenings are still comfortable, prices soften, and the venues that require booking three weeks out in January take walk-ins.
May to September is the indoor half of the year. The city does not stop — it relocates. Malls, indoor attractions and hotel restaurants carry the season, summer dining offers appear to fill the gap, and hotel rates drop to their lowest of the year. If you can accept that outdoors means between 6am and 8am, summer is the cheapest time to eat and stay well here.
Ramadan moves through the calendar year by year and changes the rhythm entirely: daytime service is limited, and iftar and suhoor become the main events, many of them excellent and most of them requiring a booking.
For what is actually on this month, our events page carries the dated listings — this piece is the shape of the year, not a substitute for a diary.
