This calendar tracks the dates worth circling: religious processions that draw thousands, cricket tournaments returning to newly upgraded grounds, international concerts making their Colombo debut, and marathons that bring the city to a standstill. We've listed them in chronological order so you can build your year around them. Navam Maha Perahera
Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo 2 · Buddhist religious procession · 31 January & 1 February 2026, from 6:00 PM
The grand religious and cultural procession will take place on 31st January and 1st February 2026, parading through the streets around the historic Gangaramaya Temple and the Beira Lake. The streets around Gangaramaya Temple fill with traditional dancers, drummers, fire performers, and decorated elephants. Free street viewing is available along the procession route on both days.
Colombo Literary Festival
Arcade Independence Square, Colombo · Literature, culture, music, film, books · 24–29 July 2026
Six days of conversations, films, music and books. The festival brings a mix of international and local voices to one of Colombo's most central spaces, with readings, panels, and cultural programming woven around the Beira Lake.
Lanka Premier League
SSC Colombo & R Premadasa Stadium · T20 cricket · 10 July – 5 August 2026
The sixth season of the LPL will run from July 10 to August 5. The opening ceremony at the SSC Colombo features a landmark 500-drone show, creating one of the most ambitious live entertainment moments ever staged around a cricket event in Sri Lanka. Tickets for the LPL 2026 are available from 3rd July via BookMyShow.
Colombo Marathon
City-wide route, Colombo · Running (42km, 21km, 10km, 5km) · 13 September 2026
The inaugural marathon is set to take place on 13 September 2026 under the theme "Steps for Peace and Humanity." The event is recognized by AIMS and World Athletics internationally. Registration opens through the official website with multiple distance categories for local and international runners.
Colombo Fashion Week
Colombo city venues · Fashion showcase · 12–14 September 2026
Colombo Fashion Week 2026 features Sri Lankan and South Asian designers at one of South Asia's most prominent style platforms. The three-day event positions Colombo's design talent on a regional stage.
Senter Music Festival
Port City Colombo · Electronic music festival featuring DJ Snake · 30–31 October 2026, from 6:00 PM
DJ Snake is performing for the first time in Sri Lanka at the festival, with full 2-day festival access including access to a DJ Snake headline live performance arena, food and beverage village, chill zones, and live stage production with laser shows and visuals. Rising from the Indian Ocean on Colombo's reclaimed waterfront with skyline on one side and open water on the other.
International Ethnic Folklore Festival
Colombo city venues · Music, dance, folklore performances · 23–30 November 2026
The festival provides a destination for cultural exchange and heritage exploration during the festival from 23–30 November 2026. The festival welcomes all dance and music groups of any style, including folklore, choirs, majorettes, orchestras, classical, contemporary, oriental, and marching and brass bands.
