OBA Central Library Terrace

OBA Public Library (Oosterdok): Not a museum, but the best free view in the centre. You don't need a membership to walk in, the building is open seven days a week, and the top floor opens onto a terrace over the Oosterdok and the old city. Locals treat it as a workspace; visitors mostly miss it. Walk past the reading rooms, ride the lift to the top, and settle in with a view.
Concertgebouw Free Lunchtime Concerts

The Concertgebouw presents free lunchtime concerts Wednesday 12:30 PM September-June, requiring advance online registration but no ticket costs. ARCAM (Architecture Center Amsterdam)

Sitting pretty on the waterfront, ARCAM, the Amsterdam Centre for Architecture, is housed in a distinctive aluminium and glass structure designed by the Dutch architect René van Zuuk. The modern design was much praised at the time of its construction - the building does look rather disconcertingly like the head of a golf club. Exhibition space open daily; no entry fee.
Westerpark

Westerpark has a cool, local vibe that makes it one of our favorite places to hang out. We love strolling through the green spaces and checking out the cafes and cultural venues dotted around the park. Smaller than Vondelpark, more authentic. A Saturday afternoon in Westerpark watches real Amsterdam live.
Open Monument Days (September 12–13)

During Open Monumentendag, historic buildings across Amsterdam open to the public free of charge. It's an opportunity to explore churches, schools, and private buildings usually closed to visitors. Step inside historic buildings, admire beautiful interiors and be amazed by pianolas that seem to play by themselves. And that's not all: gaze at the stars from the roof of Felix Meritis, lose yourself in the Zandkasteel or enjoy the view from Amsterdam's skyscraper.
Concertgebouw Free Outdoor Concert in Oosterpark

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, based in one of the city's most iconic buildings, opens its new season with a free outdoor concert in Oosterpark, conducted by Han-Na Chang through a programme built around opera overtures and Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune. There is no ticket system, and the format rewards showing up early and treating it like any evening in the square. Bring a blanket.
West Beach Film Festival at Sloterplas

Discover the West Beach Film Festival on the edge of Sloterplas in Nieuw West.
