New in Singapore: a gallery rooftop, a tea bar and Taiwanese night market

A busy month, and unusually varied — the openings range from an eight-seat tea bar to a replica Taiwanese train carriage at the airport.

Xava Skybar opened on 1 August on the roof of the National Gallery, with an unblocked view across the Marina Bay skyline and an international menu. Rooftops with that view are usually attached to a hotel and priced accordingly; this one is attached to a museum.

Liora, at Clarke Quay, works Korean flavours through modern European technique — traditional fermentation on one side, woodfire cooking on the other. It is the most ambitious of this month's openings and the one most likely to be hard to book by October.

Assaggi opened on 10 August from Chef Denis Lucchi, doing Italian degustation with three-course lunch menus from $58 per person. Lunch is where degustation rooms are worth trying: same kitchen, a third of the commitment.

Jing Studio is eight seats inside the 140-year-old House of Tan Yeok Nee, pouring ten teas from $7. Go when you have an hour and nothing after it.

Two openings for a specific mood rather than an occasion. 886 Taiwan Yè Shì opened on 20 July at Changi Airport Terminal 3, serving Taiwanese street food inside a replica vintage train cabin — genuinely good if you are early for a flight and tired of the same three options. And Lotteria, the Korean burger chain, opened its second Singapore outlet at Jurong Point on 5 August.

Elsewhere in the month: a POP MART-themed bakery, the country's first restaurant given over entirely to Jeju pork tonkatsu, and a conveyor-belt hotpot buffet at $22.90++ with more than a hundred dishes.
